This position is located in the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE) which is responsible for the coordination of violence prevention strategy and programs in the District of Columbia with a focus on utilizing public health approaches to respond to and prevent violence. The Office seeks to reduce violence by identifying, recruiting, and engaging individuals determined to be at high risk of participating in, or being a victim of, violent crime into positive behavioral reinforcement activities. The Office collaborates with other District government agencies and nonprofit organizations to provide immediate wraparound services to victims and families affected by violent crime.
Duties And Responsibilities
Provides case management through interviewing sessions with the ONSE participants and family to obtain the necessary background data and to explain program expectations and goals. Arranges for services and placements and tracks progress while in ONSE programming. Conducts frequent contact with participants and service providers to ascertain that needs are being met or makes adjustments accordingly. Monitors and engages the ONSE participant. Engagement of the participant is provided through regular contact with the individual, family, service providers, schools, employers, etc.,. The level of supervision and the individual needs of the participant determine the level of contact and according to the ONSE Case Management Protocols.

Provides crisis intervention to participant and families in the community. Responds by telephone or in person when necessary. Works in collaboration with others providing services. Schedules individual, family and or group contacts. Plans and coordinates recreational, cultural and educational group activities for participants and their families. Conducts announced and unannounced visits to the ONSE participants home, school, or place of employment to ensure that the participant is maintaining his/her schedule and complying with the ONSE guidelines.
Writes reports, narratives and answers correspondence relative to the assigned cases. Makes telephone calls to clients, employer, mental and social agencies, and other sources to discuss problems or answer questions. Documents all contacts in each participant's case record on a timely and thorough basis and ensures that all pertinent facts and disposition of the case is incorporated into the file for future reference. Provides required reports and tracking information for participants to appropriate stakeholders. Inputs data into the agencies automated case management information system. Provides case management services to ONSE participants in the community to include referrals to appropriate community-based agencies, providers and other sources. Serves as a resource person to other agencies on cases of mutual interest, and provides information to clients and their families, serves as a community liaison advocate for participants and their families in order to minimize problems related to his/her adjustment in the community. Attends meetings as necessary. Collaborates with ONSE staff and other providers to develop a comprehensive treatment plan for participants and family members. Attends all mandated trainings, hearings and meetings.
Qualifications And Education
Degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
or
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
or
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
Licenses and Certifications
Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Working Conditions/Environment
The work requires frequent field visitations; however, some work is performed in an office setting. Outreach areas can be hazardous environment. Incumbent on many occasions may perform duties in hot or highly violent areas of the city. Also, the incumbent may work in inclement weather and in hostile situations.

Tour of Duty: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM; (Hours of work will vary as required by the needs of the program to include split days off and fluctuating tour of duty, to include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.)
