Program Manager, Data Engineering, Applied Analytics and Insights

Job Description

 

This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of Austin, TX or Warren, MI, you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum

 

The Role:

 

The Program Mana ger, Data Engineering, Applied Analytics & Insights will lead accelerating and scaling data engineering using cloud-first technologies, establishing standards and processes to develop trustworthy and supportable data products that enable decision science and data science innovation, and growing team capabilities through continuous learning and development.

 

This is a global and experienced people leader position that requires a strong technical background and proven experience in people management, program management, and delivery .

You will partner with the Applied Analytics & Insights Decision Science and Data Science Innovation Hub teams to deliver future-focused, consumer-centric, prescriptive solutions that allow GM to stay proactive and nimble in our exciting transition to EVs.

You and your team will power the Applied Analytics & Insights portfolio with scalable data products that serve several lines of business including Loyalty, OnStar, Digital Services & Experience, Marketing, GM Energy, and Growth Businesses.

 

In addition to collaboration within Applied Analytics & Insights, you will also collaborate cross functionally with enabling teams responsible for data governance and security, release management, operations, and infrastructure to develop a solid data engineering foundation.

As a leader with a strong technical background, you will lead a team of hands-on practitioners and be tasked with their growth and development through instruction, education, coaching and mentorship, and amplifying the value and impact that analytics can make across GM.

 

You have balance – you can strike the right chord of technical leadership and coaching, humbly elevating and advocating for their team – with an equilibrium of storytelling, showing influence and strategic focus for peers and leaders of supporting functions, enabling them to drive revenue growth.

This role reports to the Senior Manager of Analytics Engineering & Data Literacy, with leadership visibility to the greater Enterprise Data, Analytics, and Insights organization focused on democratizing data and decisions .
What You'll Do:

Lead and manage a team of Data Engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure successful project delivery and professional growth.
Collaborate with the Decision Science and Data Science Innovation Hub functions in a matrixed reporting structure to deliver on their portfolios.


Drive the adoption of cloud-first technologies and industry-standard Data Engineering practices to accelerate and scale our engineering capabilities.
Develop and implement standards and processes to validate , monitor, and support data products that enable our decision science portfolio and data science capabilities.


Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data governance, security, data architecture, release management, Dev & ML Ops, and infrastructure, to ensure seamless integration and alignment of data engineering initiatives.


Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in the field of Data Engineering, and proactively identify opportunities for improvement and innovation within our organization.
Foster a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and development within the team and the broader data engineering community.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

7+ years of hands-on experience developing and implementing enterprise-scale data and analytics solutions using modern hybrid cloud technologies with a focus on data pipelines and reporting.
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent work experience) in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field . Master's degree is a plus.


Proven experience managing and leading a team of Data Engineers, with a track record of successful project delivery and team development.
In-depth knowledge of industry-standard Data Engineering technologies, including ETL/ELT frameworks, data pipelines, data warehousing, and data integration.


Strong programming skills in data and analytics languages, big data processing frameworks, and development tools including Python, SQL, Scala, Spark, Data bricks, Visual Studio Code, etc.


Familiarity with data governance and security principles, data architecture, release management, Dev & ML Ops, and infrastructure.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to design and implement scalable and efficient data solutions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Compensation : The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington.

The salary range for this role is $116,100 - $181,600. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
